The summer is a great time to attend some outdoor music concerts and festivals in your hometown. If your hometown is Philadelphia, then you are in luck! The City of Brotherly Love constantly has had amazing festivals and concerts this summer. From art festivals, car festivals, and film festivals, your summer in Philadelphia has been anything but dull!
The month of August is jammed packed with wonderful concerts to attend with friends! If you enjoy a wide range of music, then you will be vibing with the lineup at the Made in America festival. There will be artists of rock, EDM, hip-hop, pop, and R&B. LiveNation produces the event, but Shawn Carter or some you might know him better as ‘Jay-Z’. Jay-Z hand-picks a great lineup of established and up-and-coming musicians to perform throughout the weekend. Sometimes you can even find Jay-Z singing along in the crowd. Some of the main artists include: Travis Scott, Cardi B, Anderson.Paak & The Free Nationals, Domonic Fike, Kaskade, Hippie Sabotage, and many more! In addition to music, guests can look forward to amusement rides, interactive activities and plenty of food and drink. There will be a variety of amazing food choices including traditional festival fare and gourmet food trucks, as well as free filtered water service onsite at many stations throughout the festival.The festival will be memorial day weekend and the dates are August 31st and September 1st at The Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Multiple stages are set up along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with the main stage located in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Performances are scheduled to start around 1 p.m. on both days and expected to run until midnight on Saturday and 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. This is definitely a festival you don’t want to miss! Another music scene you don’t want to miss is Jamaica’s 57th Independence Celebration Bob Marley Tribute at LOVE Park. The Tribute is scheduled for Sunday August 11th at Love Park Philadelphia PA, which is from 10:00 A.M to 8:00 P.M. This is a free public event and all are welcome. There are many family friendly activities to do throughout the the including: a dancing and singing contest, bun eating contest, jamaica hoty patty eating contest, cold beer drinking contest and a tug of war match. There will be 300 vendors of food trucks, jamacian apparel and Jamacian Sound System will be playing at the event. Bring your family and friends and enjoy a taste of Jamaica in the City of Philadelphia.
One of Philadelphia’s five original public squares, Franklin Square is now home to Philly-themed mini-golf, a carousel, playgrounds and, this summer, a spectacular new fountain and light show festival will be debuting this summer. The $2 million project will outfit the fountain with new waterworks, new LED lighting and five kinds of water effects, including geysers and air-powered nozzles. Residents and visitors can enjoy different shows, which are all free, both during the daytime and at night. This is a great festival to bring your family to and even a fun date idea after dinner. The date of this festival is still to be decided.
More than 100 theater, dance, comedy, visual art and spoken word shows will be performing at The Fringe Festival. The Fringe Festival brings local, national and international art to Philadelphia with a more than two-week-long extravaganza drawing upwards of 40,000 people. The liveliness of the festival runs through every corner of the city, spreading from the FringeArts headquarters along the Delaware River to South Philly, the Northwest, Kensington and every neighborhood in between. FEASTIVAL, brings together Philadelphia’s top culinary artists in support of FringeArts and the Fringe Festival. FEASTIVAL will also feature more than 70 area restaurants at the Fringe Festival. The party continues late night, every night, with music, food and drink at the FringeArts center on the Delaware River waterfront. This vast assemblage of curated and self-produced innovators offers an unparalleled opportunity to see a cross section of the world’s greatest experimenters at one time, in the City of Brotherly Love!
