What to do With Friends & Family in Philly

If you and your guests like adventuring in the water, boating at Bartram’s Garden is a great spot to take them, and it is free of charge! They provide the rowboats, kayaks, oars, paddles, so you can enjoy floating down the Schuylkill River. Make sure to take your out of towners on a Saturday when the weather is nice and they even let you bring your dog if you want! 

Another fun free activity to take your guests is Summerfest. Summerfest is piers turning into parks or beer gardens, full of hammocks and happy people. Typically the piers that host Summerfest are Race Street Pier and Cherry Street Pier. There are multiple rides to have fun on and a large Farris wheel to see the beautiful view of Philadelphia.

If you are wanting a lowkey-ish night to the end of a busy day doing activities with your out of towners, take them to Philadelphia’s Historic District, Great Plaza at Pen’s Landing that screens outdoor films when the sun goes down that is also free of charge. Everyone gathers around sunset and can bring chairs or blankets to relax on. The event is called Screening Under The Stars and is every Thursday. 

If you and your out of towners are soccer fans, take them to a Philadelphia Union game at the Talen Energy Stadium along the Chester waterfront provides the perfect setting for thrilling matches and chants from the Sons of Ben. Your guests will get a great feel of the spirit and energy in Philadelphia. 

Fun Eats & Drinks in Philly

If you and your guests are taco fans, take them to an authentic taco truck called Taco Loco, which is located right outside of Snacks Playground. These tacos will definitely make you go loco for more! An order typically comes with three tacos of your choice for only $10! 

Go grab a beer or cocktail with your guests at Admiral’s Tavern,  presented by the Independence Seaport Museum, a pop-up beer garden anchored on the Cruiser Olympia, the world’s oldest steel warship that is still afloat. The ship is only open on Fridays and Saturdays, so make sure to go on one of those days. You and your guests will enjoy breathtaking and beautiful views of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge while being complemented by wine, cocktails, craft beer and live music. 

If you go out at night on the town and craving some late-night food, take your guests to either Pat’s King of Steaks and Geno’s Steaks, across-the-street rivals, are open 24/7.  Pat’s is known for their notoriously sloppy Cheez Whiz topping, and Geno’s, with its fancy provolone, draw crowds that meet in the avenue’s center, often stopping traffic just before dawn.

A great brunch place to take your guests before they leave is Wm. Mulherin’s Sons, a restaurant and boutique hotel that turns industrial history into a delicious dining destination. Wm. Mulherin’s Sons is a rustic Italian-influenced, with a focus on pizza and other wood-fired fare, but has a great brunch! They are famous for their Hanger & Eggs, which is grilled steak, two over-easy eggs, potatoes, and onions. The restaurant has a midcentury modern décor sets an inviting tone and that ensures a great experience.
